A three-alarm fire in Plainfield tore through a structure, displacing more than 90 people, early Sunday morning, Nov. 30, according to firefighters and reports.
At 1:16 a.m., firefighters responded to the blaze on the 300 block of West Front Street, the South Plainfield Fire Department said.
More than 90 people were displaced by the fire, News12 reported, citing the Red Cross.
"Volunteers with our Disaster Action Team are in Plainfield providing comfort and care to those affected by the apartment building fire on West Front Street," the Red Cross said on social media.
The Plainfield Public School District said some of its students and families were impacted by the blaze.
"School and district staff are actively working to connect affected families with available supports, including temporary housing resources and essential needs in collaboration with the City of Plainfield and local community agencies," Superintendent Rashon Hasan said.
School counselors, social workers and other support staff will be on hand to provide grief counseling and emotional support to any students and staff, Hasan said.
"Plainfield is a strong and resilient community," Hasan said. "In this difficult moment, we ask everyone to keep the affected families, first responders, and our students and staff in their thoughts as we come together to support one another."
