Netflix is turning December into a watch-list problem, stacking big-screen names, buzzy series and plenty of holiday comfort viewing before year’s end.

Netflix opens December with one of its biggest original films of the year. “Jay Kelly,” a new comedy-drama from Oscar-nominated director Noah Baumbach, begins global streaming on Friday, Dec. 5.

The film stars George Clooney as Kelly, a world-famous actor confronting a lifetime of choices and the legacy he has built, with Adam Sandler playing his loyal but exhausted manager, Ron.

The story follows Kelly as he realizes that fame and adoration have not erased his self-doubt. When his youngest daughter heads to Europe before starting college, he decides to follow her across the continent.

Ron reluctantly tags along, and the trip forces both men to examine their pasts, their partnership, and the sacrifices made in pursuit of success. Netflix describes the film as a mix of humor and poignancy, exploring identity, work-life balance, and the tension between public image and private truth.

Mystery lovers will have plenty to line up next. “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery” arrives on Friday, Dec. 12, with Daniel Craig returning as Benoit Blanc and a new cast wrapped in a fresh knot of secrets. Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein,” starring Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi, adds a gothic charge to the month.

Netflix’s December slate also brings major series returns. “Emily in Paris” Season 5 premieres on Thursday, Dec. 18, sending Lily Collins’ character to Italy. “Castle Rock” Seasons 1 and 2 drop on Tuesday, Dec. 16, joining a library boost that includes all seven seasons of “The West Wing.”

Genre fans get new episodes when “Record of Ragnarok” Season 3 comes back, while “The Manny” Season 3 and “The Accident” Season 2 expand the lineup.

Families and animation fans will see “The Twits,” inspired by the Roald Dahl story, along with “PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie,” which rolls in on Sunday, Dec. 14.

Holiday viewers can settle in with “A Cowboy Christmas Romance,” “Christmas at the Chalet,” and “Home for Christmas” Season 3. “Goodbye June,” starring Kate Winslet and Toni Collette, arrives on Wednesday, Dec. 24, with a family drama set just before Christmas.
