GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The southbound lanes of the S-curves in Grand Rapids were backed up for most of the day Tuesday after a semi-truck flipped on the freeway around 11 a.m.
The semi, which was carrying 140,000 pounds of pea gravel and sand, was traveling southbound in the center lane of US-131, according to Michigan State Police (MSP).
MSP said the truck's front end began to pitch left, and though the driver attempted to recover, the truck drifted into the westbound I-196 to southbound US-131 ramp. They said the semi then struck the concrete wall and became partially wedged under the ramp.
