GRAND RAPIDS, MI – A highly-traveled ramp connecting I-196 to U.S. 131 will remain closed for repairs for months after a rollover crash caused major damage.
The ramp from westbound I-196 to southbound U.S. 131 is closed for bridge repairs through April 30, 2026, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.
As an alternate route, drivers should exit at Lane Avenue, head south on Lane Avenue, turn east on First Street to eastbound I-196 and then continue to southbound U.S. 131.
The repairs stem from a crash on Tuesday, Dec. 2, when a semi-truck hauling about 140,000 pounds of pea gravel and sand flipped on the S-curve of U.S. 131, Michigan State Police said.
