A Sacramento nonprofit is urging community awareness after the killing of an 11-year-old boy in Elk Grove. The Sacramento Regional Family Justice Center says the holiday season often brings heightened stress and a rise in domestic violence cases. Associate Director Joyce Bilyeu says no family or profession is immune to abuse and that victims often need repeated attempts to seek safety. The center provides resources, safety plans, and a domestic violence high-risk team for families in danger. Elk Grove police said the home involved in Tuesday’s killing had only one prior emergency call, which was medical and not related to domestic violence.
