A double-barrelled shotgun was recovered from a recycling centre. Merseyside Police said officers received a report that the weapon had been found at the Bidston Recycling Centre, on Wallasey Bridge Road, on Tuesday morning.

The gun is believed to be viable and officers are continuing to carry out forensic examination enquiries . Detective Inspector Chris Clark, from Merseyside Police's firearms investigation team , said: "We rely on community intelligence to discover where weapons are being stored and who is using them.

"I would ask that the public continue to be our eyes and ears. If you do find anything, don’t touch it but call 101 and we will take it from there."
