Police are hunting a thief who stole a van then set it on fire - without realising they'd destroyed historic drawings in the back worth £500K.

The suspect with face covered took the silver Ford Transit at around 11:30pm in Heron Square, Livingston , on November 19. The following day the van was found on fire stripped of its parts.

It is thought the man had no idea the van contained 1,500 historic drawings worth over £500k - which have been destroyed.

The Royal Engineers Museum in Kent have confirmed that a van containing 1,742 World War Two-era technical drawings and plans have been stolen and destroyed.
