KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon stopped in East Tennessee Wednesday as part of her “returning education to the states" tour.
This marked the third stop on her route to visit 50 states as she works to fulfill President Donald Trump's commitment to return education to the states.
“My vision as the Secretary of Education, as directed by the President of the United States, is to put myself out of a job,” said McMahon.
In her visit to Grand Oaks Elementary School, McMahon talked about the current administration's goal to dismantle the Department of Education.
“We'll get rid of the bureaucracy, and we will transfer back to the states for education, where certainly the president believes, as I do, that the best education is the one that is closest to the ch
