The Metro Detroit area is going to see a nice warm-up today, with high temperatures by Wednesday afternoon approaching the mid-70s.

Enjoy that warmth, because an incoming cold front will bring showers and possible thunderstorms into Thursday’s forecast.

Here are the forecast highlights for Wednesday from the National Weather Service’s Detroit office:

Near-record low temperatures are giving way to warmer conditions across Metro Detroit today, with more changes in store as a cold front approaches the region.

While most areas dipped into the lower to mid-40s overnight, Detroit’s urban area maintained temperatures in the lower 50s. The morning chill came within 1 to 3 degrees of breaking yesterday’s record lows.

Clear skies will dominate the morning before high clouds move in later today.
