GRAND RAPIDS, MI — A community of West Michigan tiny homes helped take a five-year project across the finish line.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said the goal of reaching 75,000 newly built and rehabbed housing units in Michigan was met a bit early during a ribbon cutting on Monday, Aug. 26 in Grand Rapids.
Now, the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) will move toward its second, ramped-up goal to rehabilitate or build 115,000 homes by September 2026.
“We thought it would take a whole other year to get there,” Whitmer said during a Monday afternoon unveiling in Grand Rapids. “We are moving fast.”
