TRAVERSE CITY, MI -- The traffic is consistently flowing in and out of Keith J Charters Traverse City State Park. That would be the norm for one of Michigan’s top five most popular campgrounds , except that it’s closed until April 2027.
The entire park is in the midst of a $8.5 million renovation. While park day-use area along the shoreline is open, with the exception of some rotating construction closures, the campground is on a year-and-a-half long hiatus.
The transformation, which is nearly 50 years in the making , is happening quickly.
