NEW JERSEY (PIX11) – SNAP benefits aren’t expected to be issued in November as the government shutdown drags on, officials are warning.
The USDA won’t use contingency funds for the program if the shutdown continues through Oct. 31, the agency wrote in a memo on Friday. That will leave more than 40 million Americans with less or no money for groceries in November.
The state of New Jersey has a basic needs information hub on its website that can help residents find food pantries and soup kitchens. Some pantries may allow walk-ins, be by appointment only or ask for a photo ID, Social Security card or proof of residence.
The list shows food pantry resources in all New Jersey counties. Some organizations only require you to be a New Jersey resident, according to the state’s website.
