56 Lakeside

Your geometry teacher's dream home just hit the market.

The geodesic "dome home" at 56 Lakeside Dr. in Farmingdale is quickly becoming New Jersey's most talked-about listing.

The 1,789-square-foot home was built in the 1980s as a pre-fabricated, energy-efficient structure, with 3 bedrooms (two of which are lofts), 2 bathrooms, a renovated kitchen, and soaring ceilings on the main level.

But what really has people talking is the layout: the rooms are built into the dome’s curves, and none follow the typical boxy floorplan, listing agent Caroline Garguilo of Keller Williams Realty Central Monmouth said.

“Not one room in the house is a real rectangle or square,” Garguilo said.

Geodesic homes are typically built in areas that experience hurricanes or seismic activity because they’re designed to withstand high winds and earthquakes, which is why you rarely see them in New Jersey.

The house, which comes with an asking price of $475,000, has sparked a steady stream of interest, including from people who aren’t even working with an agent.

“I had five random people reach out wanting to see it — unrepresented buyers,” Garguilo said. “A lot of it is curiosity. We’ve had a couple of offers as well, but nothing has stuck yet.” She said all visitors are asked to provide pre-approval to protect the seller.

According to Garguilo, the home is best suited for someone who appreciates its unusual architecture: “A single couple or someone living alone, someone that’s artistic — even a geometry teacher,” she said. Garguilo added that the home would also make a standout Airbnb because of its unique style and quiet surroundings.

The kitchen was recently updated — the former owner was a baker — but the bathrooms could use a refresh, she said. The dome also features high-velocity heating and cooling with circular vents “the size of a half-dollar.”

After a recent price cut, Garguilo said she hopes the updated number “will get us that solid buyer.”

Set on a private, wooded one-acre lot, 56 Lakeside backs up to protected wetlands, meaning nothing will ever be built behind it. The home sits minutes from Route 34 and a short drive to the Garden State Parkway, making it convenient for commuters and travelers.
