GUILFORD, Conn. (WFSB) - An investigation is underway following a fire in Guilford on Sunday morning.
At around 9:21 a.m. firefighters were called to the area of Maupas Road North after a report of a fire at a residence, the fire department said.
When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from the home and an aggressive interior fire attack began.
During the search of the home, firefighters rescued several pets.
Firs responders were able to contain the fire to a bathroom on the second floor.
Officials said the home sustained extensive damage throughout the basement and first floor of the home.
No injuries were reported.
The pets rescued from the home are being assisted by the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter for temporary housing.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation
