SALISBURY — A Gold Hill woman was arrested and charged with statutory rape after deputies said they found a juvenile runaway staying with her.

The investigation began on Sept. 7, when the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office received a missing person call about a juvenile that had been reported missing by their parents, according to a sheriff’s office spokesperson.

The juvenile was allegedly found in the company of 19-year-old Carolina Marie Poole of Gold Hill. According to a release from the sheriff’s office, Poole and the juvenile had been friends but the juvenile’s parents did not know Poole and were not aware of their relationship.
